In late 2015, we put a bid in to NHS Hull CCG’s Healthier Communities Fund so that we could develop a Hull LGBT Social Network. The Hull LGBT Social Network is for, but not exclusively, older LGBT community members who may feel or be at risk of being lonely especially as many may not have partners, children or are isolated from their own families. This can have an obvious impact on their mental health.
The Hull LGBT Social Network seeks to develop a social group and organise regular social and other activities such as meals and film clubs. I hope that other organisations will be able to deliver key messages to the group too.
Back to the funding bid, we got through to the second round where we would have to present our project to over 100 people and they would vote whether we got the funding or not.
So, 2 weeks ago, Andy Train (a.k.a The Gold Man) arrived at the Boulevard Academy to deliver our presentation. Wow, it was nerve-wracking but he managed to secure the funding with over 60% of the vote.
So, we are now at the designing stage – what do we want the network to look like? Where will we be able to hold it? What activities do we want to do? All these thoughts are going through my mind! If you have any ideas or answers to these questons please contact me.
But for now, I want to say a huge thank you to Andy Train, all those who supported us on the day and everyone who voted for us. It really is an exciting time for LGBT residents in Hull.
